About the Kappa Delta Phi National Affiliated Sorority

Incorporated in 1977, Kappa Delta Phi, National Affiliated Sorority's roots go back to 1971 when the first chapter was chartered at Husson College in Bangor, Maine, under the guidance of Kappa Delta Phi National Fraternity. The purpose of the sorority was to allow the spirit and principles of the Fraternity to be generated among young women in the same college atmosphere. The two would share similar principles but operate separately as their own organizations. In time the Sorority flourished and other chapters followed, springing up at colleges and universities throughout the Northeast on over 18 campuses, from the tip of Maine to most recently our newest colony in Southern Pennsylvania . Our current active chapter roster consists of 12 Chapters and one Colony. Linking the chapters together is a National Board of Directors run by Alumnae Sisters.

The Kappa Delta Phi NAS mission

is to encourage the higher educational ideals and practices in our institutions, to promote a spirit of good citizenship, individual character and fellowship; and to oppose discrimination on the basis of race, color, or creed, in order to strengthen and preserve the bonds of Sisterhood.

The founding principles of this National Sorority are to develop the highest philanthropic ideals possible within each chapter and individual sister. Providing service to others is the cornerstone on which this Sorority was built. We continue to build on that through various service projects and activities for both the campus and surrounding communities. Additionally we provide a vehicle for the young collegiate to learn and expand their knowledge of leadership, management skills, and finances in running a successful chapter at their campus, which has proven useful to many upon entering life after graduation.

Once graduating, the Alumna may opt to join the National Alumnae Association which puts her in touch with a network of women throughout the United States that is a valuable contact in today's working world.

Each Spring, Kappa Delta Phi NAS, Inc. holds a National Convention in conjunction with Kappa Delta Phi National Fraternity. This event is one of the highlights of the academic year. At this time, Chapters and individual Sisters are recognized for their outstanding achievements in a variety of areas, including the National Scholarship. Chapters return home to their campuses with trophies, plaques, and certificates denoting their achievements. This convention is unique from other National Sororities in that it is the only one that invites each and every sister, active or alumnae, to participate.

Nearly 3,000 Sisters to date have become women of Kappa Delta Phi, N.A.S. and share in the principles and ideals they learned as undergraduates and continue to apply to their everyday lives as Alumnae.
