Spotlight on a Kappa - Ken Holman

Brother Ken Holman, right and Goetz Brandau

The first Spotlight on a Kappa is our own Kappa Talk website creator Kenneth Holman. Ken is 34 years old and lives in Clifton Park, NY, just 15 miles from Saratoga Springs. He lives with his lovely wife, Stacey, of 6 years and their 2 dogs, Kelsey and Chowduh. Two of the things that are very important to Ken are politics and his faith,. He is also a major fan of the New York Rangers!

Ken went to New Paltz State and joined Kappa Delta Phi in the Fall of 1995. He felt Greek life was not for him until he found Kappa Delta Phi, they were established for only a year at the time, otherwise he would have pledged for them sooner. He liked what Kappa Delta Phi was presenting to him. They had a very good group of core values and they weren’t a huge national fraternity where he’d be lost in the shuffle. What attracted him the most was that Kappa showed a great blue collar New England work ethic. He believes that in the end he chose Kappa and that Kappa chose him.

As Web Technology Coordinator Ken builds inter/intranet pages for his company and fixes things from computers to large networks. Kappa gave a sound education in ways a college education alone could not. Kappa Delta Phi prepared him by teaching him time management, resource management, having interpersonal interactions, planning budgets, and planning events. He feels Kappa prepared him more for the real world than college alone did. Some of his favorite Kappa past times have ranged from being active and as an alumni. The most recent alumni past times include having social meetings, dinner parties, and going to hockey games with fellow alumni. As an active, going on road trips to other colleges and being welcomed in by people that he didn’t know on a first name basis, but had the same ideals and core values as himself is a rewarding experience.

Michael Circe is the brother that has changed a part of Ken’s life. Although Michael is a couple years younger, Ken can see how Michael applies Kappa ideals with his involvement with his family, work and community and this inspires Ken to do the same. As for the sister that has changed his life, Ken said it was the Alpha Class of KAG...all of them. They changed his life because he witnessed all of their hard work and perseverance through the most daunting of times.

As an active, he didn’t hold any positions, but throughout campus he was involved with many activities. He was busy being President of the Resident Hall Association, a member of NRHH, and the Ad Director of the campus newspaper.

Congratulations to Ken Holman for being this week’s Kappa Talk’s Spotlight on a Kappa!
