Our Traditions

Our Founding Father - Nahum Leonard. On April 14, 1900, Nahum Leonard founded Kappa Delta Phi.He envisioned a fraternity whose purposes would be to bring together males of good character who are studying in institutions of higher education and who manifest a keen interest in higher education; to promote the highest ideals and educational practices; to promote a spirit of good citizenship and to seek change in our institution only through duly constituted authority, to actively support the fight against discrimination on the basis of race, color, or creed; and to strengthen and preserve the bonds of brotherhood which link men together working toward a common cause.

The Badge Of Kappa Delta Phi is worn by Brothers. There is also a Jeweled Badge worn adorned with 14 pearls. Kappa Delta Phi Alumni and Wives of Kappa Men may wear the Jeweled Badge.The meaning and connotations of the badge are revealed to members during initiation.

The Yellow Rose is the flower of Kappa Delta Phi.

The Coat of Arms. The meaning and connotations of the Coat of are revealed to members during initiation.

The Flag is comprised of 3 equal sized panels with the chapter designation preset in the lower right hand corner. The Flag is present at all meetings and events help by National or by a chapter. Kappa Delta Phi
Our Mascot is the Crow. Crows are very intelligent and innovative animals. They have problem solving skills that most creatures in the animal kingdom do not have, they have the freedom of wings, and they are never seen alone. The crow possesses qualities that our fraternity reflects.

Symbols and Colors. Our badges and pins are lozenge in shape. The Fraternity colors are black and gold. The meaning and connotations of the shapes and colors are revealed to members during initiation.

Community Service. Kappa Delta Phi is a national fraternity deeply committed to helping their fellow man. Service to others is a staple of all active chapters and alumni chapters.

Our Sisters. We have the pleasure of having a National Affiliated Sorority. The Brothers and Sisters can often be found at the same colleges. While two separate organizations, with different governing boards and financials, we do share a great many bonds with the sisters. We also have 2 yearly conventions. The brothers and sisters attend different business meetings at different locations however we do share socials and banquets with each other.
