Brothers from Alpha Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi at Bridgewater State College spent the early part of this week ensuring that some area families in need have a happy Thanksgiving. Alpha Chapter held its 4th annual Thanksgiving canned food drive and collected 60 bags of groceries for the North Easton-based My Brother's Keeper.
Sixteen Brothers from Alpha Chapter were involved in this year's drive, and they placed collection bags at Roche Bros. in Bridgewater (which donated the bags) and distributed empty bags to 500 homes in town. On Sunday they collected the bags and put together a trove of goodies that will surely brighten the holiday for many area families.
"I was speechless at some of the stuff we collected. People were very generous", said Brother Dan Kent, Alpha Chapter's philanthropy chairman.
During the week, the students also brought food to their peers who were participating in BSC's Tent City.
Each year, the drive is an important event for Kappa Delta Phi, Brother Kent said.
"One of the main reasons we do it is not just to help others, but for ourselves," he said, "so we can learn more about service and educate others about the homeless." (John Winters, Office of Institutional Communications)
